Semester at Sea

In Spring 2015, I served as the shipboard videographer for the Semester at Sea program, documenting students’ educational experiences during their semester-long, round-the-world voyage. Traveling westward from San Diego, California to Southampton, England, we visited 12 countries and 15 cities over the course of 112 days

“Now We’re Making Our Own Stories”

Exploring Endangered Languages in Hawaii

Students pay a visit to the University of Hawaii at Hilo where they learn about the University’s efforts to preserve and revitalize the Hawaiian language and get the chance to interact with native Hawaiian speakers.

Exploring the Mekong Delta

While in Vietnam, Spring 2015 voyagers explored the Mekong Delta, where they visited a floating market and enjoyed a homestay with a Vietnamese family.

Novication Ceremony in Burma (Myanmar)

Students got the chance to witness a Novication Ceremony while in Burma (Myanmar) in which children are initiated as novice monks in the Therevada Buddhist monastic tradition. Karina Wohlheiter shares how the experience reminded her of similar coming-of-age traditions from her own culture.

Sasha Bruce Youthwork improves the lives of homeless, runaway, abused, and neglected youth and their families in the Washington D.C. area. This short video highlights a week-long “mental toughness” retreat for teens.

Reach Incorporated

Reach Incorporated is a highly innovative literacy program that recruits and trains struggling adolescent readers to tutor D.C. elementary school students in need of additional support.

Street Sense

Street Sense offers economic opportunities for people experiencing homelessness in Washington D.C. through a newspaper that elevates voices and encourages debate on poverty and injustice.
